On the inspiron 9100 with the 256MB Radeon 9800, I get about an hour's battery life when I'm playing games such as Chronicles of Riddick. Watching a DVD I'll get about an hour and half max, and simple internet browsing/word processing probably about the same hour and half max.

This is with powerplay turned off so as to maximise graphics performance as much as I can, though with powerplay turned on I only get another 15 mins of battery life nut have to put up with graphical stuttering for the last 30 mins. Not worth it IMHO.

I presume it'll be the same (or as near as matters) for the XPS, though i've never used one so don't know for sure. I think the only difference is the screen res, I've got the 1680x1050 screen, the XPS has the 1900x*** something one.

This help any?

The XPS and 9100 both have UXGA and SXGA options. The power consumption, for all intensive purposes, is identical between the 9100 and XPS.

well most of the time when I am listening to music I have it plugged in with the 12 cell in place. When i need the extra batt life I put in the 16 cell I normally don't have a place to listen to music without headphones when i'm on battery so no it doesn't bother me at all. BTW, thomaszak sweet i'll see you there (my name is Eth in TS)
