Sager 5680 review
-Sager 5690 now replaces the 5680 with the difference being the ATI 9600 replaced with an ATI 9700.
-15" UXGA Wide angle LCD -Radeon 9700 128MB video card -Hot swap floppy drive, media drive, and second battery options -DVD-RW Combo drive -Up to 2 internal hard drives -3.4GHZ P4 processor/ 800 FSB -Dual channel 400DDR RAM -PCMCIA TYPE II slot -Integrated bluetooth AND Wireless LAN options -USB 2.0, S-video out, VGA out, and firewire to name a few of it's ports Fresh from the package all it came with: ![]() Here are some random pics of it including bios shots and pics of each side: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Notice the CNTRL and FN keys swapped now from the factory =). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The SXGA+ LCD offered in the 5690 is an average LCD spec screen as far as viewing angles, contrast, and brightness. The UXGA 15" offered is a 400:1 contrast ratio with 85 degree viewing angles and 200cdm2 brightness. ![]() To get to the RAM, CMOS battery, and wireless flip back the 2 tabs and lay the keyboard forward: ![]() Remove the 4 screws holding the heatshiels/keyboard platform: ![]() Sager sends the systems out with 2 RAM moduals installed to make sure dual channel DDR is enabled. So, if you buy 512MB RAM you get 2-256MB sticks, if you buy 1024, you get 2-512MB sticks. The RAM is 400DDR and made by APACER. The system will hold up to 2048MB of RAM, but requires the much more expensive 1024MB sticks to fill the two slots. ![]() The floppy drive bay is quick release and under the floppy you will find the hard drive held in with 1 screw: ![]() The 60GB 7200rpm Hitachi used currently: ![]() The remove the main media drive bay, it's simply 1 screw and it slides out: ![]() 4400mah battery: ![]() It's easy to get to the CPU. After removing the 3 screws to pull the cover you're left with the 4 tension screws you need to remove and replace in the order it says: ![]() ![]()
