Yes the official model is z71vp from the z7100 series. Can someone please post a link to any of the asus subsite where this model is advertised. I am looking for the flash intro but none to be found, The global site has flash for all of them. I will reward whoever finds it with the getting jiggy banana
Not sure how he got 4.5 but on casual usage last night w/o ALS I am able to get over 3 only...

Here is an interesting finding I gotten so far.

The nVidia driver which comes with the notebook is version 71.13. In 3D Mark 2005, I could get around 1730ish (give or take)...

The latest driver on nVidia website 71.84 "DOES NOT" support the nVidia GO 6600!! which is a total bummer.

However, if you go to Guru3D.com and download the xtreme driver, which incorporate the 71.84 from nVidia and sort of mod a bit, you could pump 3D Mark 2005 to around 1800ish (that is w/o the memory and cpu over clocking!!!)

Just thought that was interesting. So far, I have yet to find another driver working with this laptop other than that one. What is interesting is the Toshiba Tecra series also uses the nVidia GO 6600, but their drivers won't detect the Asus version. I believe the Tecra uses the MXM version of the board, while Asus uses the non-MXM version of the board.

It was 4.30 mins, although I did have it on battery save mode and brightness was on 20%. Just done another test and got 3.45 hours on it.

If you keep sound low on 15% can this improve battery?

looking back through the initial pages of the review itself, I found a question to ask: Remember back when you did that Doom 3 benchmark, and got a higher fps rate at higher res than at lower res? Was that because anti-aliasing was turned off? Missed that the first time, but looking back, it gave me pause.

I can't believe that the new driver dosen't work with our GPU. I tried to update it with no luck. I was thinking of trying the driver from Guru3D, but am worried about using an unofficial driver. Will it adversely affect the GPU? And when Nvidia releases a new compatible drive will I be able to just delete the one from 3DGuru?

That's what I decided as well.

Yeah it was turned off as at the high resolution (1600X1200) there is no point to have it on as it looks great without it. Only at lower resolutions is anti-alaising needed. The same goes for HL2 and CS, I got 51fps in the CS graphics test on 1600X1200 looks amazing.

51fps on Half Life 2? And 30fps is the standardly-accepted bare-minimum? Nice.

Is Half Life 2 a long game, or a short game as far as shooters are concerned? I like a game that really gets me involved, and makes me work a while in order to finish.

51fps on CS graphics test. And remember my GPU is back to underclocked 250/400. Have you not played it yet? Great game more than just a shooter than doom3, took me a while to finish it but only played it couple of hours a day.

Just done video stress on CS, overclocked to 300/700 1600x1200 everything on high aa off got 54fps

is that a good score?

olli3: no, I haven't played it yet. It looks wonderful, and I'm hoping it's not just a mindless run-and-gun shooter.

HL2 mindless??? No way ellement, just wait till you get your grimy little mits on that gravity gun....oh my oh my. The best price I've found for the ce and standard version is at gogamer.com you should check that out.

I'm kind of sad at how it seems our GPU was so underclocked but I guess I should have guessed that thinking back about how in the world they were giving us those amazing battery life stats. Oh well, I bet there will be a safe solution to overclocking and I'm not going to let this ruin my expectations, this is still an excellent laptop

Underclock the GPU?

Could someone who has their Z71V try underclocking the GPU as far as it will go without causing stability problems and then test performance in web browsing, video playback and common 2D tasks.

I have tried this on my desktop 6800 and it really helped reduce heat and fan noise when using my computer as a home theater PC. Hopefully we can stretch that battery life out a little more by doing this. After all what is a 6200 but a lower clocked 6600 with less pipes. Hmm that gives me another idea maybe we can temporarily lock some of the 6600 pipes in software to save even more power.
