I have no sparkles, though there's a bit of 'light-dripping' (light-dripping being infinitely less noticeable than full-on light-leaking) out of the top and bottom: maybe an eighth of an inch from the bottom, and less than that from the top. Hardly noticeable.
Oh, and watch for a possible failed optical drive. Mine just died a few hours after it came in the mail. Thanks to the warranty, I'm getting a new one overnighted tomorrow, so I should be up and running again by Saturday. Last edited by ellement; 04-21-2005 at 08:19 PM. |

Is this a generic thread anyone can use to write about their new Z71Vs?
Received my unit the other day. I have to admit, at first the size of it was more than what I was expecting so it scared me a little. (My previous laptop had like a 14" screen so this was a jump for me, heh.) Haven't had much time to play around with it yet, but I'm slowly "building" it out for Ghosting onto DVD-R (I'd suggest this as a rule for all computer owners, drive images can be a real time- and sanity-saver!). My impressions so far working on my Ghost build have been very positive. Solid construction (though I have to admit I'm handling it like crystal anyway, I have a tendency to do that with electronics), quiet and responsive keyboard, no dead pixels, great sound. The only thing I found weird at first was the touchpad, it's EXTREMELY sensitive, guess I have to get used to it (though I've had to plug in a spare USB mouse to speed up the process). The screen is awesome, it's my first 15.4" widescreen. The first thing I had to do was watch a movie on it so I pulled out Black Hawk Down, excellent visuals, nice and clear with the colors and separation and the cinematography comes across almost better than on my desktop. As soon as I have my Ghost image I'm going to test the battery life, see if it can play all 4+ hours of the Return of the King Extended Edition before running out. My own specs & pictures for the interested Last edited by Asr; 04-22-2005 at 01:46 AM. |

I was hoping the battery would last longer, what's all the hype about extended battery life with the Sonoma?! My Z71V came with an 8-cell, how long do those usually last? Would it be worth it to get a 12-cell instead? |

there is no 12 cell option, but you could get the additional battery that swaps out for the optical drive. I'm considering that as well.
