FYI all: the USB issue was a false alarm: it was a problem with Sandra, not with the Z71v.

the z71v is great.. been pretty conscious at ppl's laptops lately..
and i have to say mine is by far the best 1 around ...

i can see ppl's loud toshiba's, weak spec'ed sony's... and then i realize my laptop probally costed me less too.. hopefully more ppl will notice asus from our reviews

I was wondering about the warranty on the Z71v. It sounds like if you open the back up to upgrade the ram it voids the warranty is that true or am i reading it wrong?
Any help would be appreciated thanks!

I believe you are correct, and I wish I knew that before I ordered 2 sticks of memory instead of 1. You can get at one of the memory spots by taking out 2 screws on the bottom (marked "k"), pushing three tabs at the top of the keyboard, and taking out the keyboard. However, the other one is apparently the one where you void the warrantee to get at it.
