4760 ctrl and FN key swap firmware!!

Do not install the below firmware on any system other than the 4760 or it WILL ruin it!

First you need to download the .exe file we tried to make as easy as possible
DOWNLOAD 4760 only.

Download it to your desktop:

Make sure your AC power is plugged in!
Then put in a blank floppy into your floppy drive (make sure it's not write protected). Double click the file

Click "Create"

Click "YES" and it will format and write everything you need to your floppy disk.

When it's done reboot your 4760 with the floppy disk still in. If you have changed your boot sequence from the factory default, go into your bios (F2) and set it back to boot from the floppy.

Once it's done flashing the firmware, you will need to remove the floppy disk and hold the power button down to reboot.

Now the fn key will work as the ctrl key and the ctrl key will work as the fn key so all that is left to do is swap the keycovers to reflect this:

carefully pull up on the top of the key with your fingernail or something like that to release the top half of the key. Then you can lift it off.

To put it back on, slide the bottom down into place first then snap the top into place.

The (mis)placement of the Fn/Ctrl keys was the only thing bothering me about this otherwise awesome machine. The firmware update worked like a charm and the step-by-step instructions for swapping the keys went off without a hitch.

Thank you!!!

Any plans on doing this for other machines like the 4060? This would be really keen to have...

Make a bootable CD... plenty of instructions around the net for this... of course, the biggest worry is: Is there a BIOS update to swap the keys available for your machine.

Hey I totally agree with you about the 4780 that the FN and CTRL should be swapped so CTRL is in the corner, I'm also hitting the wrong key nonstop.
So have you actually used the 4760 bios here? or have you found a way to do it? let me know, thanx.

I'm just waiting for some nice guy to post a rom image for the 4780 bios with this mod..

And speaking of which.. are there any plans to release tools (like dev tools) for the clevo bios? It would go a long way to getting more of the hardware running smoothly under unix.
