Zd800 heat and a laptop cooler
Hi All,
I just ordered my Zd8000 yesterday it's fully loaded with a 3.4 GHZ I'll also purchased 2 gigs of ram from Kingston for an additinal $325 I'll be doing alot of Photoshop stuff so the ram will be helpful !! I was wondering what is the best Laptop cooler to buy ?? Also has anyone run it without a cooler for extended periods of time ?? How much of a difference does it make with it ? As I plan to leave the laptop on 24/7 And I am concerned about the heat and the possibility pre-mature breakdowns as a result Thanks......Shkj |

Are you going to upgrade to 533mhz or stay with the 400mhz?
You can get a Kingston 2gig kit 400mhz from zipzoomfly for $260 free fedex shipping. I'd hold off on the cooler. I got my 8000 3 days ago and it doesn't really get that hot. Most of the heat is over the battery compartment and it isn't really that bad. I leave it on 24/7. Battery life is almost exactly 1.5 hrs. Better to put your money into an extra battery if you are mobile.

The zd8000 is used to get freakin hot due to the CPU type/speed (P4EE, 3.4ghz).
Actually I'm using an Antec cooler (you can find it on CompUSA.com). It works great here, but there are probably some others much better on the market (try to get one with 3 fans!). Cheers. |

I just switched from a vantec ac powered fan cooler to the targus podium coolpad. It seems alot cooler on the podium since the laptop is raised quite a bit for the heat dissipation. Plus I like to have the screen at eye level. The vantec pad had a fast vibrating hum that I could feel even on top of the laptop. The laptop just came back from service after replacing the motherboard and memory so I am considering that the vibration could have had something to do with the problem.

I've tried most of the laptop coolers on the market for my 15in zv5240 with a p4 because it was getting to like 67+c... Anyways none worked well... Until i found a $0.20 fix... I got 6 erasers and stacked 3 ontop of each other so i have 2 stacks and taped them together... I then lifted up the back of the laptop with them and my laptop runs at less than 55c...
BTW: on all the zd8000's I've seen only the battery gets hot... |
