damn money, but I have collected what people have said about each individual system, for example AW users like the 200 GBs storage and Dell 9300 users really like the price, but some dislike the screen, where as Sony A600 users love their screen. But I mainly wanted to present a list of specs so people can make their own comparison. So a video editor could see in a "side-by-side" comparison (actually a up-down comparison, lol) that the 9860 is a better choice for video editing because of the P4 CPU and the massive HDD storage. So a gamer can see that the XPS2 has the best graphic card. And so a traveler who wants a 17" screen can see the lightest one, the Gateway M680.Last edited by MichaelX30; 05-02-2005 at 07:36 AM. |

Very nice guide you put together. Thanks. I personally like the Gateway M680XL with the X700/128megs right now. Daley |

gezz I cant believe I try to do something nice for the forum and I get negative rep points for it, I swear someone here must have a vendetta against me or something, especially since I get negative rep points when I actually try to post constructive threads, oh well whatever.

I’m an architecture major buying my first computer and I am not a very computer savvy individual. Price shouldn’t exceed 2200. I will be learning to use:
ACAD, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, form-Z, Vis, 3D Studio Max, and Maya I’ve heard negative things about Dells and while I’ve found a seemingly good deal with a Micro Express 259iA1 or NP3716A, I’m a little nervous to buy an unfamiliar brand. How are Sagers or Acers? Possibly even more important is my uncertainty about the new world of 64 bit processors? How do they compare now? Is it worth the investment? Will my software versions change in order to run with a different operating sys?? Please help, I need all the advice I can get. |

Hey people, sorry I haven't updated the 17" Notebook guide recently, although I have been wasting time on NBF I have alot of finals coming up, starting Friday I will add more notebooks and try to show some unbiased comparisons of CPUs and GPUs.

Great site
Thanks for all the work you have done. I had a 9300 - and now an HP and it is going back too. The thing I wished some one would do is talk more about the dual core or 2 processors feature that is forthcoming. I looked at the sager and asked if an 6800 could be put in and one message said yes and another said no. I know you are talking computer but you might want to say something about service - I have had very bad, bad, terriable, service from dell and super from HP and I mean Super - it is as different as night and day between the two. If you know of any sites that are discussing dual core processors let me know, also if you are going to get into that because of all the processors ot there now and what can or will be upgraded- Thanks - DeOldGoat@aol.com

Gazar - That is what I am using now - has a P4 3.4 - but upgrading in future 6-12 months to a dual core is impossible - has to be a 3.6 up for it to happen or so states HP people. Love what I have and no problems - been using 20 days - 4-6 hrs a day. But do get a mouse - key board has a real good feel to it and is tight. When talking to hpshopping people put a little pressure on them to come up with a coupon - they can.

I really do LOVE this post. Is there any chance of updating to include the HP zd8000 as it's a pretty popular choice? I'd love to see them all together.
Great work though. I know you've put a lot of research and effort into that. ![]() |
