Can't remove cover and replace the personalization lid...

Has anyone successfully replaced the XPS2 cover and replaced it with the personalization lid? Following the instruction to remove the cover, I still can't get it off. Is there a trick to this?

You don't replaced the XPS cover, you just put on the personalization lid.

If you purchased the quick snap cover with your xps it will come installed - to take it off you need to pry the top 2 clips - bend them up a bit and it snaps off - its a TIGHT fit!. If you purchased it after then you just snap it into place. It's a pain that you have to remove the quick snap cover in order to add inserts.

I received the personalization cover (with inserts) after I got the XPS2 (Dell sent it to me for free). It certainly is not a *quick* snap, because I can't get the original cover off. I tried bending the cover as instructed, but I was worried it might damage the LCD; my nails are almost coming off and the cover still won't move!

Yeah I feel the exact same way, I got my XPS2 with the lid installed, and their shoddy little directions panel hardly helps enough on how to remove it. Im actually a bit afraid to go tearing on it to take it off since Im not actually sure how to. I wish someone would post a step-by-step with pictures because I just can't pry it off and its annoying, I either want something under there or the thing removed!

I honestly wish I never ordered that cover, oh well.

The original cover does not get removed - stop trying to break the lid immediately!!!!
The personalization shield snaps over the top.

How to Remove the Snap Cover -

At the top of your LCD - you will see 2 long notches - on either side of the lcd close lock. Place a small flat head screwdriver into the notch and pry up. It is a tight fit but it will come off. If it won't come off it means you are not applying enough force - it will come off.

On the other hand if you don't have a snap cover and are trying to remove the back of your LCD pannel - good luck.

Unfortunately its not as easy to remove as the 9X series was... but its doable.

Place the Personalization Shield over the backpanel

Engage the clips that fit in the gap by the hinges

Press down at the front edge to engage the clips into the groove

This shows the right hand side clips engaged. See the groove that the clip for the left side needs to engage

To remove the Shield deal with one side at a time.

Get thumb nails under the edges of the left clip and prize off

Then do the same for the right

Wow Kissarmy, thanks for the step-by-step instructions and pics!!!

Wouldn't have known that the cover snaps on top, the instruction doesn't mention that at all. (Now that I take a look at the instructions again, it does show the original lid! )

Thanks again!
