Driver Rookie
Hello all.
I keep reading about installing DirectX. Was that included on the driver CD? If not how do I get it? I installed XP Pro easily, then followed the Sager manual, using the driver disk. The LAN had no setup.exe, but I did it thru device manager, and pointed it to the CD directory.--seemed to work. There were 2 video drivers 7.93, and WHQL--I did the 7.93 ones. I checked the dates on the CD, and they are all earlier than Sept 18th--Sager website is Sep 18th and later. Now remember I am new to driver installs, so here is my BIG question, or how I think I should do this. 1. Create a directory called mydrivers, and download all relevant drivers from the SAGER site in to this folder. 2. Go in to device manager and uninstall all the drivers. (A list of what to look for would be nice). Now this seems dangerous, and I also read about XP having some type of self-healing powers which may foil my plans. 3. Launch executables from the mydrivers folder, or use device manager to point to the mydrivers folder and install. Is this right? Thanks--Mike |

you can get directx off of the windows update program. The newest version i think is 9.0b. Windows xp can "keep the computer up to date", but you can easily turn this off bu going into control pane->performance and Maintenance->system->automatic updates-> make sure the option is unchecked. In the device manager, you should just look for the video drvers to unistall. Most of everything else that you can update does not need to be unistalled, then reinstalled with the latest drivers. Only with the video drivers should you unistall and then reinstall. For the latest drivers go to http://www.sagernotebook.com/pages/tech_sfwrdls.html ,then pick your model to get them.

Thanks
I didn't expect anyone in Charlottsville to help a Hokie. (Well, I guess they did during the ACC soap opera this summer).
When you say "get them" Do they upgrade automatically from the sager site, or do you save them, and then run them? |

nope, they get saved to a location. One of two types of files are made for the drivers. One is an executable, where you can just double click and it will install the drivers automatically. The other is a compressed folder which you need to extract, then go into device manager, right click on the device that you want to update and click "update driver" from the menu. Next click install from a specific location then click don't search i will install. Next click "have disk" and browse for the extracted folder and somewhere in there should be the driver. To be honest, i dont like UVA's team. I remember when they almost got beat by the Richmond Spiders!
