So, to put as5 on the cpu, i take off the heatsink, and only apply it to the heatsink? On the GPU, only one the metal part?

Then, what was that picture of a processorlooking thingy with NVIDIA written on it?

€: These are questions I'll most probably be able to answer once i attempt to apply it- I'm no idiot .

No, apply very little to the heatsink and rub it in very good, then clean the excess off. Then put a tad bit of as5 on the gpu (half the size of a grain of rice) and even it out. Then put the heatsink back on. The picture of the thing with NVidia on it, was the gpu ore.

Ok, I just installed the 7800 gtx, so after i get my driver's license (hopefully) I'll drive to compUSA and buy as5.

The HEATSINK of the GPU is what the guy in the guide calls "cooler", the grey thing? Rub it in good, and clean it off. With what, that alcohol stuff (What's it called again?) The stuff on the core stays... and how do i get the tape off? Scratching, and then alcohol?

On the CPU, i put it on the top of the CPU, AND on the heatsink, or clean the excess stuff off again?

All they were trying to communicate in the guide as far as AS5 is concerned was to follow the standard instructions for applying it:

http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_s...structions.htm

You'll see the guy on this webpage smearing it into the heatsink with a plastic baggie and then cleaning off the excess & etc.

you clean off the old thermal pad (VERY CAREFULLY) from the heatsink and the CPU/GPU core. Clean with high-concentration isopropyl alcohol (mine's 91%) to remove any remaining residue/finger oils (Q-tips work well for me). Apply some to the heatsink where it makes contact with the core, and rub it in good. Clean off excess with a clean, lint-free cloth--do not clean again with the alcohol! You want the AS5 residue to remain on the heatsink, but not a lot. Then apply an even layer to the clean CPU/GPU core before reattaching the heatsink.

Ok good, so i apply the compound to both heatsinks, but clean it off both of them with a LINT FREE cloth ^^.

The cpu needs half a grain of rice, the GPU a total grain of rice, spread with a credit card (or a clean bag). Thermal tapes and pads are scraped off and completely cleaned off with isopropyl. Thx, ill do that later today, just need to find a clean lint free cloth ^^

Just be careful!

And you may require a bit more AS5 than they show for desktop applications. I think the Dell heatsinks are designed to fit with a slight gap due to the thermal pad they use. But don't use too much either, or the performance will be decreased. It's a fine line.

denatured alcohol is fine too, i use it for lots of things... it's ethanol that's been poisoned so you won't drink it... get it at pharmacy, home depot, etc... isopropanol, methanol & ethanol are all alcohol, ethanol's for drinkin'...

lol use pure grain from the liquor store if you want the purest - it's 95% pure alcohol (ethanol)...

and just use a coffee filter for any "lint free" stuff - cheap and readily available... except cleaning your screen lol

Ill use the cloth you get for cleaning your glasses. Ill do it tomorrow, my chem teacher'll give me >=99.5% propanol. I always thought i'd buy torx screw... didn't get around to do that... what did you guys use, apart from the t-8? A normal screwdriver? It looks like it'd work.
