when i first got this laptop about a year ago, i brought it under the impression that i was getting a 1.6ghz with 533fsb. that was what dell advertised it as. however, i just recently learned a bit more about computers and i know now i dont have a 1.6 533fsb, but a 1.6 400fsb because dell adverstised it wrong. kinda pissed off i just figured this out a year later, i sought out ways to improve my laptop. im pretty new at computer stuff, but i heard about overclocking processors from a friend. i searched that on google and it led me to this site. long story short, i managed to do the pin mod on my laptop and quite happy with the results. reading through this thread has brought undervolting to my attention and at the moment i am trying to do just that. i know i can use prime95 to test my max load voltage, but what do i use to test min volt? do i just keep dropping it until my computer crashes?
nvm, i figured out how to force it to run on minimum so i can prime test each voltage. Last edited by lvlonkey; 09-15-2006 at 11:51 PM. |

I've already pinmodded an i9300, and it was great. I just ordered a barebone MSI 1032, and I was wondering if it will also work on that. It has the intel 915pm chipset. I only remember from my 9300 (probably over a year ago) that there was one chipset that it doesn't work on... I think it was the 915gm that doesn't work, but I don't remember. Can anyone tell me if the 915pm or the MSI 1032 works with pinmods?

im 99.9% sure it will work. it has the same chipset as a 9300, so it should work.

There's another guy that used to have a 1032 and has attempted it before with a 1.6 that has a very high rate of success. It might not be worth my time. For an extra $30, I can just buy a 1.83ghz instead. I think it would probably work too, but the performace gain vs. risk just doesn't seem good enough for me. Thanks for the reply though.

alright,
i have a 1.7 400 mhz chip. With just the pin guide it will boot into bios, and says. 2.24. With the VID 0 and VID 2 grounded, it will boot into windows with low stability. With vid 1 and vid 2 grounded, it will boot to windows with stability. The problem is that cpuz, ramcheck, and windows system tab all report that the cpu is a 1.7 running at 600 mhz with a 100 fsb. I have disabled speed step and i was thinking that i must have done something wrong since its not running at 2.24? Am i crazy or does this make sense. What can i do to fix this? Sean Smith |

Would the people who got the pin mod to work with the Inspiron 9300 please post their sSPEC number on either the processor they currently have in their system or on the processor they replaced? It's a 5 digit number on the processor. I'm mainly interested in how many pins (478 or 479) there are on the Pentium M they used and whether I need to crack open my laptop to check mine or whether it's consistent on all 9300's. The sSPEC number lets me check against Intel's data sheet. Thanks a lot!
Edit: Got mine to work, rockin' at 2.13 Ghz! Last edited by Wildbiftek; 10-04-2006 at 08:03 PM. |

Yeah but the chances of it running stable at 2.53 GHz are remote. Any Dothan with a 400 MHz FSB can be pin modded.

Been holding off upgrading from my 1.86ghz for a while now, but the prices have fallen on the 1.6ghz/400/2mb centrinos on eBay. Just got one shipped for $44 from a reputable seller. Looking forward to getting some fresh thermal junk on the gpu as well...
Thanks for posting the mod! ![]()

![]() I notice the cooling fan stays on most of the time now. I did take the extra 30 minutes to remove the thermal pad (what junk!) and add some strandard 10% silver grease I had laying around. Did the same for the 7800 core too. Figure it can't hurt and I have no plans to open this beast up ever again, so I made the most of it.

I have suceesfully pinmodded a 1.6ghz up to 2.13 with no volt mod. Everything is working fine and I tried Prime 95 for a few minutes with no issues that I can tell. Heat seems to be in check. Max heat after 5 minutes of PRime 95 running was 65 degrees C. but normal operations yield around 47-55C.
What is a guaranteed confirmation that this is actually running at 2.13 ghz. Under control panel, system, and general info it says: Intel Pentium M processor 1.6Ghz 2.13Ghz, 2.00 ghz RAM This actually says BOTH speeds. Under device manager the processor reads 1.6Ghz. Using Ifan95u it says processor is running at 2133mhz so I assume the overclocking worked. Is this normal info in these places on my pc for a pinmod overclock? Is there any way to get this to read differently? I guess the machine still sees the 1.6 Ghz processor but it is performing faster? Any input would be appreciated to help me understand. Thanks.

It's normal to see that in the system info. My 2.0 pinmodded to 2.66 shows 2.0 under the general info, but it registers 2.66 under CHC and FanGUI, as well as in BIOS.
That temp seems high for no volt mod, I would probably reapply the AS5 (or whatever you're using). Mine runs at 68C after a couple of hours of Prime95, and thats with a VID4 volt mod (brought down to 1.46v). Quote:

There's who says that it's impossible; Who says that it's possible only a software method; Who says that it's possible with pin mod, and I have also found a detailed guide: http://www.overclockers.com/tips1232/ . But, what must i do??? Help me please !!! thanks!! p.s. my notebook is a Compaq Presario X1005ea Pentium m 1.3 ghz (718) Core (banias) |
