Docked NB Dell Inspiron 8600 - DVI connector

I plan on getting a LCD screen for my laptop hen docked. Does it have any significant advantage using the DVI connector from my docking station.

Should have asked this first.
Can I use the DVI port and at the same time use my NB's screen at the same time so i have a dual screen option to get more on the screens. My NB has Nvidia GEForce FX Go5200 and seems like have a dual screen option

Can anyone shed some light to my desire going forward with getting a second display (other than my NBs). Thanks in advance
