selling question

i sold my old xps 1 and 9100 so i could buy the new xps2 and 9300. i have already sold my old xps on ebay. but the person who bought it says they would rather me give them the service tag so they can call dell and confirm the computers specs... before they pay me. what do you guys think? i am very weary of fraud. as i know for a fact two people tried to con me already. but im smarter than them. so i am still weary about this also. dell cant do anything right? or am i being too paranoid. any help thx.

What can the guy do with the service tag other than look up what it came with.
I think you are being a little paranoid.

Do not listen to RamIt (sorry dude), you're certainly not being paranoid. You're being careful, which is smart of you.

But he is right, they can't do anything with the service tag except look up the system.

Hmmmm. Isn't that a lame argument to want the service tag from Dell when you could easily change the spec if you wanted to? Let's say the dell service tag says the computer has 1gb ram, but you've changed it to 512mb. Then it's not much of a guarantee is it?

I think some buyers want a little assurance that they are getting the system as what is described on the listing and not too far off from the original specs when it was bought brand new (in case the were some upgrades or downgrades made). They also would like to know if there were any modifications made to the system. You know, some people like the "original"

I know this isn't the most pleasant thing to do, since ....ahhh, CS is the most amazing, lovely thing in the world, but.....the safest thing to do would be to call up Dell, and ask them yourself. Make sure the person you're talking to has a clear idea of what you're saying, has a semi-clear grasp of the English language, and knows how to count from one to ten in more than one language.

...Ok, so maybe forgo the last part.

But yeah, just call them up and ask. Better safe than sorry, right?
