[4750] Low gaming performances
I got my 4750 with a AMD 3700+ proc. about a month ago. I have the latest drivers for my ATI (8.04).
I tried playing Splinter Cell 3, and the only way to get decent performances was to lower all settings to the minium (no antialiasing, just a x2 Anisotropic Filtering) and lower the resolution to a 1400*something. Now I was hoping to get performances that would exceed my desktop computer (a 3 year old Pentium with 2 Ghz, 700+ mb of ram and a G-Force 3). Especially after spending so much money on this system. So is there something wrong with my setup or can I just start crying ? Thanks a lot for the help |

I do not use my sytem for much gaming, so I know there are many people here that can give you better advice. That being said, a good place to start would be to install omegadrivers instead of the ATI 8.04's. they are available on Omegadrivers.net As many people have said on these forums, the mobility 9700 will be the limiting factor, not the processor.

Thanks I'll install these drivers.
Yeah it does look like my card is pretty old though. Is it easy to update that ? Let's say for an ATI X800 ? |

The 4750's gpu is not upgradable because it is soldered to the Motherboard. The only Sagers featuring an upgradable gpu are those with pci express.

Yes. i bought my 4750 in September knowing that pci-e was coming out, but because I mostly do DV editing it would not effect me as much as gamers. You said that you had it about a month. if you want a newer card you should try to return it immediatly to get under the 30 day return period. however, you should have done your homework before buying. A bunch of people on the forums are waiting for an AMD/PCI-E combo.

Another problem i just got. I installed the Omega drivers, but now my webcam keeps acting weird on me. It works fine, but sometimes (and quite often) it flashes, splits, or turns in a red tint for a split second.
It's quite annoying. Could it be something in the omega options that I have to change ? |

It is stated on the SS 3 box that it may not work well or not at all with notebooks, i cant play online with my notebook only single player because of that problem.

Great I reinstalled my cam drivers, and now my cam is even worse. You almost don't see anything (just simple shapes), the colors are all messed up and the brightness auto-adjustment keeps changing the brightness level.
I uninstalled the omega drivers but it didn't fix it. Help. |

In the camera options go and disble the autoexposure and set it to your own muner. (Video Capture Filter) You may need to download driver cleaner (google it) to completely remove the Omega Drivers. I just want to note that my webcam works fine (after adjusting the filter options) and I have had no issues related to Omerga Drivers.

Ok here's something new I realized the Omega drivers did to my laptop (why oh why did I install them). Now whenever I go in Stand by mode (by closing the laptop's lid), when I turn the computer back on, all my sounds and videos are accelarated. That's right. Everything goes too fast and sounds distorted, whether it's mp3s, videos, or regular Windows sounds.
Any ideas how to fix that ? |

Judging from you previous problems you may want to just consider reformating you drive. It would just be easier to start form scratch. i find it wierd that omegadrivers would cause that standby issue.

no no no can't do that. First, I've never formatted a laptop, and I just don't want to go through the hassle of reinstalling everything. I'd just like the magic answer to fix this problem, if possible

Here's a reality check for you. You can't install new drivers with an ATI card and expect it to work 100%. The only way to get rid of the ATI drivers completely is to a) follow a complex process listed at www.rage3d.com or b) reformat your hard drive. I know it sounds like a crap suggestion but take it from someone who has owned ati cards for over 5 years. It's the only way.
