Linksys wireless g notebook adapter probs

I just installed windows xp pro and tried to set up my 5660 on my network. The card (linksys wireless g) is not recognized in xp pro...in my other laptop it is....so it is not the card. My pmcia port is functional in the device manager. I uninstalled it and on the next reboot xp installed it. There don't appear to be any special drivers on the sager website for pmcia and windows xp..any ideas.....help...I love may sager and want to go wireless...btw linksys support was useless....any help would be great

Thx

There ARE PCMCIA drivers youre supposed to install off the driver CD. I have the same wireless card and it works fine. Just a few tips, though: in the device properties for the card, make sure you dont let Windowz power it down to save power; also, use the Linksys control utility for handling connections instead of Windowz (XP really, really sucks at handling wireless).

So even if the device manager says PMCICA slot is working I have to install the sager drivers?? What is the folder called??? Do they have to installed in any special order??? Can I use the ones on the sager website for the 5680(which say they are for XP)??? On the sager website the only PMCICA drivers are for 2000.

Thx

Dont know. I never bothered to see if XP detected my PCMCIA before installing the drivers on the CD. Just do it and see

EDIT: The folders on the CD are very self-explanatory.

I cannot tell for sure, but I would not think so because the MB chipset in the 5680 is different from that in the 5660. Anyone?

lbidude, you have to download the drivers for the wireless card from the manufacturers site, http://www.linksys.com/

Yes, PnP means you can hotswap it and dont have to manually configure irq and io settings. But windows still needs to have a driver for it. Windows is shipped with a good amount of drivers, but it comes out new hardware on the market all the time, so sometimes you need to download them yourself. In fact, it always a good idea to do so, because then you make sure you get the latest version.

lbidude, I am still in the dark whether you installed the PCMCIA drivers (NOT the wireless card drivers) off the driver CD or Sager's site.

When you go to the sager site...the pcmcia driver for the 5660 are only for windows 2000...and ther are no pcmcia drivers on my drivers disk...but in the device manager windows says my pcmcia slot is working...and another card....I believe a 3com ethernet card was recognized...and worked...the linksys card has lights on it and requires power...I wonder if that has something to do with it...

thx

Let's get things straight here. There are no drivers for the PCMCIA for windows XP to download, simply because thats not needed. Windows XP is shipped with drivers for your particular PCMCIA implementation. You wrote that you got another card working, fine, so the conclusion is PCMCIA is working.

Now lets move on to your particular Linksys card. Its common to have to download drivers for your 3rd party devices. Sager does not know what type of 3rd party devices you are going to use, and therefore are those drivers not included on the drivers disk. Maybe its the reseller who have bundled the card with your computer, but it hasnt anything to to with Sager. I posted a link to linksys earlier in this thread, go there and download drivers for your card. You wrote that it didnt work. Why didnt it work? Did you get any error messages? What does the device manager say? Do you have an exclamiation mark or a question mark next to the linksys device?

In fact, the card has light on it, that may suggest that it infact are function properly. What do you mean require power? A PCMCIA card does not use any external power sources. What are you trying to connect to? Do you have a wireless hub? Do you have a internet connection at all? Reading your posts does not give me a clue whatsoever about your knowledge in those things.
