Acer Ferrari 4000 vs Dell Inspiron 6000 vs HP dv4000
I am going to be a college freshman, and need a good notebook. Price not a huge deal, but I dont want to spend too much over 2000. I want portability, but also ability to play decent games and a nice sized screen. I think the 15.4 is perfect, and I have arrived at two options in addition to the ferrari. (as mentioned in post title
). Configurations for other two...dv4000 - $1947 XP Pro 1.86 pent 750 M Integrated 900M graphics (128) 256 ram 1 GB ram 80 gb 5200 rpm HD x8Lightscribe DVDRW 2 year warranty w/ accidental care (doubled to 4 years with card) two 12 cell batts integrated wireless w/bluetooth All in one printer Quickplay 15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen (1280x800) Dell Inspiron 6000 - $1810 (w/ 750 coupon) Xp home 1.6 pent 730 m 2 GB ram (upgraded via crucial.com so not dell original) 128 x300 ati graphics card 60 gb 7200 rpm HD integrated Wireless + bluetooth x8 dvd burner (not lightscribe) 2 year accidental care (again, upgraded to 4) all in one printer 6 cell + 9 cell 15.4 inch UltraSharp WUXGA LCD Panel (1920x1200) My question is, is the Acer worth upgrading to over these guys? Is the 64 bit that important. I mean I want longevity, so if its gonna be necessary in two years, then that is crucial. Also, can you customize the Ferari 4000? thanks Thanks, REALLY appreciate it |

For performance and 64 bit, hands down Acer Ferrari 4000! It also achieves very respectable batterylife, especially relatively to the performance GPU and CPU it carries. When you want to have battery life just set it for max battery and when you need GPU and CPU set it to always on. It's very flexible, however you want to use it.

Yea, the Turion should trounce the ~1.8Ghz Ms in the two models you have listed. The only way I'd take either of those over the F4k is if they had at least 2Ghz P-Ms, but then the graphics card offerings each has is pathetic compared to the x700 in the F4k

Well, the ferrari 4k is good-looking, and obviously has better graphics, but if that's not really important to you, then why pay the extra 200-300 dollars?
And if those prices you list, actually include that printer, then the price difference increases largely offcourse. To anwser another question, no, I don't think you will NEED 64 bit in 2 years. it will however probably be standard by then. |
