So only thing which you need to do, is to compile inside kernel SATA support.
Maybe you can even do modprobe (if there is Terminal avalible) for sata module, and try to mount disc.
My suggestion, I still don't have my Fuji

I'm still trying to find out how to put the SATA drivers on the Windows XP CD. I know it's possible, but some parts are confusing. What I'll probably do is wait until I get the laptop in a few weeks time, burn the recovery CD, and then copy a few files over.

Could someone run this on his M4438G?
I've got then I'm in max 20% (on my desktop). So I think then M4438G will be absoltuley on top

"Dolby Digital Live"). Still, I was under the impression that the "Dolby Digital Live" feature was an integral part of the Azalia sound chip and if that's the case this should be only a driver related issue which a future driver update would solve. However, maybe it's an optional feature and Fujitsu-Siemens decided to throw it out? Would be interesting to find out somehow...

Is there any possibility that it could be upgraded later on? The lack of the option to open files from the internal HDD:s would definitely kill of the whole purpose of this feature to me...

Given the problems with the BIOS, SPDIF, PowerCinema and possible other issues you've encountered this far, have you changed your opinion or are you still positive about it?
The 5.1 will be no problem with the Soundblaster box supplied. Even though I had the impression that the onboard soundsystem would do all the 5.1
As Cyberlink commented it seems they are not intrested in the Linux variant. They made it specific for Fujitsu and when talking to thir support, they are very ignorant and dont even answer my questions. I hope it can be solved soon.
I still think its good notebook. Good graphics and outstanding widescreen. But for me its gone from 9,5/10 to 8/10 due to mostly the Powercinema Linux

hi
a little help here...i've just bought a 3438G and for me it's a little too "hot".
I mean that the GPU stays normally in 62 celsius and after a 3dmark it reaches 70 degrees celsius!! Is that normal?
I don't know, it's my first laptop but 62 degrees celsius by doing nothing it seems a bit too hot.
Should I fix this or it's just the normal?

Dont think there is any problem with that temp. Warning temp is standard set at 100 degrees celcius if I recall correctly. Are you happy with youre 3438G so far?

yes
so far very happy
and i've read your thread before I decided to buy this laptop.
10x for all the work.
But in my intuition, 100 degreed celsius is high for a warning temp.

Anyway, I haven't had time to test it thoroughly because I'm in the middle of exams but after that it's TESTING time
Now I'm reading the undervolting forum instead of studying :P
Some interesting things there...

Yes but I had only Vampire Masquerade Bloodlines to play with and it runs great...
But this is not a really demanding game I think...

In a couple of days a friend of mine will borrow his collection of over 24 dvds of games and that will be the end of my exams

The most brilliant thing about this laptop is the screen...just cristal. Way much better than all the other laptop screens that I've seen so far at my friends.
I haven't tested yet the PowerCinema but as I told you, in a couple of days is testing time

I bought it for 1500 Euros with 4 years international guarantee...for me it's really a bargain.
It's a great laptop in my opinion!

Display

I am going to buy a laptop and I am between the Dell Inspiron 9300 (with 17'' UltraSharp Wide ScreenWXGA+ TFT Display) and Fujitsu Siemens M3438G (With 17" TFT WXGA+ active matrix with Crystal View). I‘ve seen the M3438G and its screen is incredible. I want to ask if the display of Inspiron9300 is the same technology as M3438G. Does the DELL's display produce the same crystal clear image as M3438G or its display is the common foggy display as on most laptops?

I think you'll find that the i9300 screens have had a lot of problems, either light leakage or the 'sparkle' effect (or both). I've also read that the colours on the i9300 screen can change across it (e.g. change in brightness). So if you're comparing the 3438's screen to the i9300's screen, the 3438 is superior. This may not apply to the Dell WXGA+ screen, but it definitely does to the WUXGA one. I honestly don't know if the lower res screen is affected by the same problems. Ask/search in the Dell part of the forum about the difference between the WXGA+ and WUXGA Dell screens and see what they say.

btw...
I think you all know that the 6800 is the DDR1 version with the frequences 325/600. This was the first version released by Nvidia and then came out ATI's mobile x800 that kicked ass.
Only then Nvidia released the 6800 go with freqs 325/1100 (GDDR3) that is better than ATI's mobile x800.
So for anyone who wishes to buy 3438/4438 should know this first...i didn't but it doesn't matter anyway in my opinion. If you want to score millions of points in 3DMark then you should go for the desktop...
Anyway, this is my explanation for this laptop's cheap price.
On the other hand, it has so many advantages that this minor "disadvantage" may not even be noticed.

Crystal View

Thanks for your quick response. I have another question to ask about the displays. Does dell's inspiron9300 and gateway M680xl (with 17" Ultrabright WSXGA+ TFT Active Matrix 1680 x 1050 max. resolution) have a proportional to m3438G crystal view technology? (Maybe they name the technology with other title?)

I think all the names basically mean the same thing, but whether it's identical technology, I don't know. Somebody else will have to clarify this.

The support at Cyberlink is a bunch of retards. They dont even understand the problem.
It seems I have to use USB or DVD when using the Remote. This is very sad. It was a reason for me when choosing the Notebook. And when I try 2 harddrives, the program doesnt even boot.
Belch, I don't know if i understood correctly but my PowerCinema sees the harddisk when I boot and I can play the movies from my hard-drive.
But there were some which I couldn't play...I think it's because of the codecs, i haven't had time yet to see if you can install codecs or just play the mpeg 2 and DVD format written in the specifications.
And my hard-drive is SCSI (this is what Windows is showing me...a bit strange but it maybe true...then I am the proud owner of a SCSI hard disk) so it's similar to the S-ATA, it need drivers, right?
Well mine boots into PowerCinema just fine...

Rectified...the hard disk specifications are these ones S-ATA: http://www.fcpa.com/download/downloa...-datasheet.pdf
But Windows keeps telling me Fujitsu MHT2080BH SCSI Disk Device. And also other programs for diagnostics report me that it's SCSI.
Am i or SCSI and S-ATA are really different interfaces?
