One more question: is there any option of using PCMCIA cards with X1 by means of some adapter?
I just wonder if I will be able to use somehow my PCMCIA TV tuner with X1.

ivar,

I don't know the actual voltage values he used to underclock - I'll have a play around with his X1 next time I see him. I don't think he'd bother to spend much time on it, so it's possible that it could be undervolted further. I believe a standard battery was used BTW.

I agree with you regarding these chips, a ULV chip may indeed be simply a undervolted and underclocked standard chip, which doesn't make them any more efficient, but could mean that the potential for further undervolting is reduced, hence the results that my friend got.

There may be reports on underclocking the ULV chip in the massive Pentium M thread on these forums, but it would take me an eternity to get through that!

I followed that thread until the previous week. No answer to this question there (if you mean the thread on undervolting)

Someone who actually owns Dell X1,

please check these pictures in the German review:
http://www.netzwelt.de/news/71910_2-...-notebook.html
http://www.netzwelt.de/news/71910_3-...-notebook.html
(click on them to magnify) and please tell me if the american version looks the same.

It doesn't look like a magnesium case, or I am wrong?

In this German review it is also written that the vision angles of the display are very poor, both vertical and horizontal. Do you confirm it? According to them it especially concerns the bottom of the display.

Well, hold on there for a while partner...

I just got 1 out of 2 of my x1 and this one is crap. The display has a light leakage all the way to the top. Screen looks like it has SPARKLES just like my XPS2 has. One good thing about it is that it is soooooo light.

I will have to wait for the other one tommorow to confirm. I hope this one that I just got is purely crappy system and the other one that is coming is in good condition.

Ok. Opened it up and the hard drive is defenately smaller than the regular notebook drive. The width is excatly the same size as a pcmai card as tall as two of them stacked together. Keyboard is great. The LAppy actually feels fast and not as slow as one of those celerons. Only thing that is making me want to return it is the screen.

Is it really so dimm as it was mentioned in one review?
I thought that 170cd/m2, contrast 90:1 (the numbers taken from on a published German test) and high resolution would ensure good quality.
BTW, I returned Apple 12" powerbook earlier this year, one of the reasons was the screen
(it was around 140cd/m^2 and lower resolution than that of dell X1).

I got mine a couple days ago, and I'm getting some light leakage. I'm not sure if it's the normal amount or if it's bad, but I can notice it a bit even in Windows using the classic start bar.

The overall quality of the screen is pretty crappy. The lighting is not uniform, and the viewing angle is terrible. The screen looks washed out from slight angles. And when viewing it from the front, portions of the screen look washed out until I move my head, then the portion that was washed out is clear, and the portion that was clear is washed out.

I wonder if I just got a bad screen or if this is common throughout the series.

Mine is fine (YMMV). It's plenty bright for a matte-based finish screen.

its actually brighter than the 700m but it has more of a bluer tint on the screen. It's actually growing on me so Ill give it some more time and we'll see how it goes.

@MitchellO

M7333 ULV processor 1.1GHz has the voltages 0.84V -- 1.00V and takes 5Watt. I can't give a link to this because I have just written it down from some article.
