I was reading this thread

And collegestudent brings up something about the current chipset not having some adaptive radio something or other. I really don't know enough about these wireless cards nor do I really feel like sinking time into understanding each chipset. But it might be something you wanna look into.

I think you misread. He stated in that thread that the PCI Express didnt have adaptive radio. In my laptop and yours, you use mini pci which he said didnt have a problem. Thanks

My Intel 2915

I just got my inspiron 9300 a few days ago with the Intel 2915 abg wireless card.
I dont know what all the fuss is about? This card works great, I am using it with a linksys cable modem and linksys abg wireless router. The router installed to my desktop with no problems and when I turned on my wireless card on the laptop It immediately picked up the connection and all I had to do was put my passcode for the network in and I was up and running.

I think you folks that have trouble arent following directions or maybe using DSL??

Or maybe you should be using Linksys, the best modems and routers Ive ever used!!

Hey, I agree... I've been having no probs with the 2915 either. UT2004 online has been no problem either after I put the power mode to max power as opposed to power saving mode. I don't argue that you guys have been having problems with the Intel cards, but I'd say you're probably the minority, not the majority as you perhaps make it out to be.

That's a much nicer way to put it!
Myself, the issues are moot, as I use a TrueMobile (Dell/Broadcom) 1470 a/b/g

Interesting comments. I changed out my Intel card a few months ago due to the problems I was having. When you think of all the different wireless technologies and all the different companies manufacturing prodcuts to various standards, quite frankly, I'm amazed these things work at all.

I don't think that Intel products are crap, quite the contrary, they make some of the best computer components out there. Just look at Centrino processors. I just didn't like the results I was getting from my Intel 2915 card. So, as I was looking around for a solution and read a thread on another forum that Atheros cards were a good alternative to the Intel, I decided I'd give it a whirl. The Atheros 5004 4G card works great and now my WIFI light blinks accordingly with the information being transmitted...kind of like a hard drive light.

All in all, it's good to keep a discriminating perspective and stay away from blindly partisan statements.

Oh, by the way, I think AMD sucks!

More info / How about 2200 card?

I've experienced a few of these overheating & connection loss problems with my Intel 2200bg wireless card. A few questions I have is..I know I can physically change out the card in my notebook easily myself, but how can I be sure it is compatible? Where can I buy this Atheros /Gigabyte card? How much does it cost? What are other competitors to Atheros & Intel, and why has no one mentioned them / are they worth considering /etc..? Thanks for any additional information.

I had been looking for an excuse to buy a new router and the 2915 card was IT! I bought a Netgear RangeMax Router

http://www.netgear.com/products/details/WPN824.php

It automatically regonfigures antenna poistion (7 antennae in all) to avoid as much interference as possible. There is a demo on the site. I am not defending the 2915, its crap, no question, but this thing is blazing fast and has not dipped below 54Mbs all day nor has it dropped its signal.

Hope that helps
