M520 Overheating

Has anyone here experienced a fan that is not working and needs to be replaced?

I found the fan I needed to purchase for $80 or the other option is Gateway fixing it for $299 (plus tax, as the support chat person so nicely kept reminding me).

Does anyone know how easy it is to install the new fan? Is it worth me purchasing the replacement or sending the whole notebook back into Gateway to be fixed?
