One of the best, maybe even better than the old Registry Mechanic!

WARNING: Backup your important data before using!

Just like to inform you guys that the once shareware web browser application Opera is now freeware. Never used it before, but heard lots of good stuff about it.

Some of the freeware apps I'm using right now:

Mozilla Firefox (Free web browser)
AVG Anti-Virus (Free antivirus)
Microsoft Anti-Spyware (Adware/spyware cleaner)
Konfabulator (Widget host program)
OpenOffice.org (Free office suite)
FreeRAM XP (RAM freeing app, mostly I use it to monitor free memory)
Centrino Hardware Control (free do-it-all app for centrino chipset. Battery, hard drive, CPU, fan, video card, it controls it all)
NetPerSec (Free hard to find bandwidth monitor/grapher from PC Magazine or something)
Google GMail/GMail Notifier (Hey, it's an application, a web app, and it's free)
Regex Coach (Free regular expression helper, performs colour-highlighted matches in realtime to help in writing regular expressions)
Daemon Tools (Free tool that mounts CD images as if they were in a real CD/DVD drive)
7-Zip (Free file compression tool that compresses better than ZIP/RAR/ACE)

And lots of others. Those are just the ones that came to mind, not even the most important. Just everything I can remember off the top of my head while not even at my computer.

Cute PDF Writer

Makes what 80% of Acrobat users want to do which is, well, PDF files; at a fraction of the HDD space required.

Found this new freeware backup disk image program called DriveImage XML. I don't know of any other free ones. http://www.runtime.org/dixml.htm

It runs in windows(XP only), not Dos like many do. I tried running it and it started with a nice interface, detected my drives and partitions right away. Problem is it couldn't detect that MS VSSvc.exe was running (volume shadow service - used to lock the drive), even though Windows reported that VSS was running.

Is anyone else interested in trying this program? If so please download it and give it a whirl. And tell me if you have the same problem, or not.

BTW, they have a plug-in for Bart's Windows PE cd. The combination would make a wonderful, free recovery tool.

The GIMP!
Seriously if you never tried The GIMP please, please please give it a try. In my opinion it's better then photoshop (it has many more filters), it loads faster, and is 100% Free!
