Hello I have a hp pavilion zt1000 laptop and it got to a point after about a year where it wouldn't charge with the ac adapter unless you wiggled the cord just right and held it in place, I thought it was the adaptor at first but I ordered a new one and that didn't do it, so it must be the socket that the adapter plugs into on the laptop. I have some experience working on desktops but never a laptop, I was just wondering how hard it is to replace that part myself or is it tricky enough that I should carry it to a professional computer shop for replacing?

I had a ZT 1170 with the very same problem. The solder on the socket of the AC plug in at the back of the laptop off the MB came loose, real easy fix, get a small soldering gun and weld that sucker back down, sold it to a friend 3 yrs ago still hold good

Thank you for the reply, I was thinking that that was the problem but wasn't sure. How hard is it to take the laptop apart to get to the part that needs to be fixed? Could someone like me with a little experience with desktops handle it do you think? The compact nature of the laptop worries me, might not be able to fit it all back together again
