I ordered the Ferrari 4005. It came today. I took it out, plugged it in, pushed the power button and nothing... the screen didn't show any sign of turning on at all. The power button was glowing, the little HD light was on, the fan was going, power light on... I waited and waited... nothing. I had to hold the power button to get what little was on to turn off. So I checked everything from the wall outlet to the components being plugged in firmly. Then I noticed if I didn't push the button long enough it wouldn't even attempt to turn on. It did the same thing a few times, but now when I push the power button the lights light up for less than 2 seconds and it turns off making a very very quiet beep like noise. Time to RMA the DOA.
Here's the info from the box: LXFR406035523091ACEM00 P/N: LX.FR406.035 System BIOS: 00/3A17 In the off chance you get this particular unit, it is either still broken or has been reburbished. Random thoughts: #^*$%^#^*&@!!! Doesn't Acer test their laptops at all??? ... Shipping box was not damaged... but maybe it got baked or exposed to radiation or something in shipping... Damn, this sucks... To whoever/whatever is responsible...What's are the chances I could get a hold of Acer and get them to cross-ship overnight a replacement with no charge and no effect on the warranty of the new unit? I'm thinking zero, but I couldn't get a hold of them. Next best option is to have the store I bought it from cross-ship the replacement (of course I get charged until they get the defect)... but they'll probably just do some cheap ground shipping and it'll take forever... ![]() |

Sorry to hear, I would not ship it back to Acer. Your best bet is to take it up with your reseller your bought from for a Replacement. Lots of resellers will exchange a DOA unit, give them a call to find out.
Acer noted that 40% of Ferrari 4000 don't make it out of productions if the quality and Carbon Fiber finish is not up to High Standards. My shipping box was heavily damaged. Luckily the inside contents were safe from harm, brand new. |

Ferrari Dark, you're right. Acer won't replace - they will only repair. From what people are saying about Acer's testing process, this must have been damaged somehow in transit, or the "testing" they do is a load of fresh cow dung. I should note that it came three boxes - the retail box with the pictures on it, a box just big enough to slide around it and an larger box padded with paper. The inner box still had the shipping label from China to the store. They ship these things internationally in just two layers of carboard??? Oh, and I should clarify - the box didn't have any significat damage, but the outer box was a bit wrinkled here are there, retail box look perfect, and more interestingly, the cardboard packing inside the box with the cords and things was very flimsy and sort of crumpled in places.
The torment continues. I called the store. They're happy to replace it, but, they're out of stock and it'll be over a week until the next shipment. So, I can either get a full refund and eat the cost of returning it to them, or wait another 2 weeks... Did I mention this sucks?Last edited by leiand_13; 07-19-2005 at 10:08 AM. |

I opted to get a full refund (and eat the cost of shipping it back) and I ordered another one from zipzoomfly.

Sorry about your troubles, I don't know what to tell you, except that if you do decide to order it from somebody else, I suggest ZipZoomFly, if you're in the USA.
Good luck!
