Question Replacement DVD-RW drive for P25-S607

Seems as though my DVD-RW drive in my Satellite P25-S607 has died. So my question is whether or not there are any newer DVD±RW dual-layer drives out there that will fit this machine. Anyone know? Thanks!

Be careful. The generic drives you buy will generally not work in Toshiba laptops. Most aftermarket drives (including those made by Toshiba) come as cable-select and there is no jumper. Toshiba laptops usually need the drive to be set to Master or Slave (usually via firmware) and will not work with a C-C drive. Most Toshiba laptops need the drive to be set as Master (on the secondary IDE channel), but machines with drives in removable bays need the drive to be set to slave. There is a place that sells drives pre-flashed for Toshiba laptops. I don't remember his name and I am away from home this week and next.

Thanks for the info. If you can provide with that guy's name when you return home, I would most certainly appreciate it.

I'm not familiar with your machine, but I think the DVD drive is part of a plug-in module. I would guess that the DVD drive is therefore set to be slave. I also think that on some DVD drives, the same firmware supports slave and CS. IT would be good if you could find out if my guess is true, but Toshiba won't tell you. They want you to pay them $300 or $400 to provide the same drive you can get for $100.
